Capstone Consulting Project
This second component of the Program will allow the candidate to demonstrate that the concepts learned in the program have been applied in the creation of a consultancy practice, the acquisition of clients, and the successful completion of a client engagement.
The project will be presented in two parts.
Part 1: The student’s own Journal continuously containing consulting activities engaged in during the Program, lessons learned and insights gained—to include:
- Establishing of a business consultancy;
- Creation and execution of a marketing plan for the consultancy;
- Acquisition of multiple clients;
- Demonstration of the ability to:
- a) diagnose as a Generalist; and
- b) solve using Specialists to provide solutions to those issues..
- Use of tools and templates learned in the various modules;
- Client management processes.
Part 2: A full client case study that will be accepted for publication by the IIB. The case study will present either a specific specialist engagement or generalist business issue. The case study must present some unique aspect of work, research, approach, or insight that will add value to the knowledge base of practicing independent consultants.
Work on the Capstone will progress in stages. The project is designed to ensure the Student is gaining REAL consulting experience (consistent with the IIB Methodology) while progressing through the Program. At each stage of the project, the Student’s progress will be assessed.
- Stage 1 (1 Credit, completed during the 1st quarter of study) – Students will engage in and document in a journal the following:
- Set up a consultancy;
- Create a Marketing Plan;
- Actively Prospect for Clients.
- Stage 2 (1 Credit, completed during the 2nd quarter of study) – Students will engage in and document in a journal the following:
- Continuous prospecting using a variety of activities;
- Obtain clients using the IIB BSP methodology; and
- Begin consulting as a Generalist
- Stage 3 (1 Credit, completed during the 3rd quarter of study) – Students will engage in and document in a journal the following:
- Continuous prospecting using a wider range of techniques;
- Obtain and consult as a Generalist with multiple clients;
- Use of a Specialist on at least one client engagement;
- Use Generalist Tools and Templates
- Stage 4 (1 Credit, completed during the 4th quarter of study) – Students will engage in and document in a journal the following:
- Continuous prospecting and building a multiple client practice;
- Use a variety of Specialists with a variety of clients;
- Utilize structured client management techniques
- Stage 5 (2 Credits, completed during the 5th quarter of study) – The activities below will be completed while the Student continues to prospect and build /manage a multi-client practice, using the Generalist/Specialist model and documenting activities in a Journal.
- Complete tutorial on writing a Case Study;
- Prepare a proposal and outline of an in depth Case Study.
- Stage 6 (3 Credits, completed during the 5th quarter of study) - The activities below will be completed while the Student continues to prospect and build /manage a multi-client practice, using the Generalist/Specialist model and documenting activities in a Journal.
- Complete the in depth Case Study;
- Package Journal/Case Study into the final project Submission;
- Have Submission accepted and Case Study published by the IIB.
