A Brief History of the IIBU

In 1984 the Institute for Independent British Business began life by publishing a business directory, The Index of Experts, by which specialist advisers would provide practical advice that works™ to independent business owners.

In 1991, after much study and research into the future of highly experienced and qualified but unemployed executives and the needs of more and more failing companies during the global recession of the late 1980s, now as a not-for-profit research, training and accreditation higher education body, the Institute launched the IIB Consultancy Business Development Programme™ (CBDP) - a unique concept by which graduates, as accredited Associates, analyzed their client company needs as Generalists and solved those needs using sub-contracted Associate Specialists, thus providing the business owner with a virtual Board of Directors at affordable rates.

Global research continues to show that most owners/managers of small to medium-sized businesses are concerned that they lack the skills, experience and time to be effective in various key aspects of management, as well as the contacts and resources required to maintain and grow their businesses. To address these fundamental needs, the Institute continues to graduate highly skilled and highly experienced business executives who have been trained and accredited in advising and bringing to independent businesses practical business advice that works™.

In 1995, although still headquartered in the United Kingdom, ‘British’ was dropped from the name, when it became evident that there was, and certainly still is, an unlimited demand for the CBDP in both the developed and the developing countries of the world. So, still as a not-for-profit company, the Institute for Independent Business International was established in the USA in 1995. There are now IIB graduates in over 30 countries, where they are providing, to thousands of independent businesses each year, their very own practical business advice that works™.

Now the leading global organization in its field, the IIB has provided independent businesses with access to over 5,000 Executive Associates throughout the world—an incredible and exclusive network of talent, resources and contacts providing valuable support and practical business advice that works™.

Finally, in December 2009, the Founder was invited to establish the IIB University in California, USA.
